Are you wondering why your business is not growing?

One of the reasons why your business may not be growing is because you are not building a steady list of prospects and clients.

Why are you not growing a list?

In my over 12 years as an Email Marketing Practitioner, I have found that professionals fall into 1 of 3 possible categories.

Category #1: The come by and buy and so long goodbye business.

Maybe you are like one of my past clients, let's call him Bob, he was in business for over 30 years but had been enjoying selling to clients who walked in his establishment without ever really keeping track of his buyers’ emails or data.

Category #2:The one-time wonder business!

Are you the one-time wonder business type? This type has over 2000 email addresses of past and prospective clients, but you either sell them once and never again because you never know how to sell them – let alone how to leverage retargeting to sell more to those who bought in the past.

 Category #3:The email blaster business!

Perhaps you may fall into our third category of a business owner: The one who adds everyone to their email “blasts” and is constantly getting complaints about SPAM, or people want to unsubscribe because they do not see how your content helps them. (I know this one category very well because this was me!)

Do not worry, because I am going to share with you a formula that will make you understand just how valuable your list can be to your success. This formula will make your list-building one of the top priorities for your company. Not just because I will teach you how to grow an email list, but more importantly, how to easily attract quality and qualified prospective clients to your website.

Did you know that according to a McKinsey & Co study, email marketing is still 40 times more effective at reaching your target consumer than Twitter or Facebook?

Data from the Advertising Research Foundation (ARF) indicates checking email is the most common activity on PCs. It is estimated that 9 in 10 US internet users send emails, making it one of the leading digital activities.

Despite the growth and prominence of mobile messengers and chat apps, e-mail is an integral part of daily online life. In 2019, the number of global e-mail users amounted to 3.9 billion and is set to grow to 4.48 billion users in 2024. (Number of e-mail users worldwide 2017-2024. Published by J. By consistently attracting a steady flow of leads to your sales and marketing funnel, you will more easily keep your company sales afloat and even experience automatic growth.

You may be wondering, what is a sales and marketing funnel? And what is the difference between that and the buyer's journey? A sales funnel is a visual representation of the journey that a client takes from being a lead to becoming a customer. The sales funnel allows a company to see how quickly they can transform a lead into a client. By understanding your sales funnel, you can more easily track the buyer’s journey. By the way, the buyer’s journey maps out how close a buyer is to buying. Do not worry about remembering these terms right now. Just note that understanding these terms is important to any company that wants to experience growth.

Below are some of the reasons why customers like you have told me that they are not growing a list. (By the way, as you are reading these, feel free to begin selecting in your mind the ones that apply to you!)

  • You do not know how to write or create attractive offers
  • You do not have an opt-in offer or form
  • You do not know how to create a lead capture page on your site
  • You do not have email marketing automation set up

I know that you know how important it is that you continuously grow your list if you want to stay in business and generate sales. However, you may feel frustrated by one of the issues mentioned above. Do not worry. You are not the only one and you are not alone. I know how you feel because I have been like you. Even though I went to grad school to get my MBA in marketing, when I became a small business owner I did not understand why I needed a sales and marketing funnel and I knew nothing about how to create one. Every day, in every way, I am getting better because I invest in others who are helping me achieve my big sales goals. As I grow I want to help others grow too.

If you want to know how to quickly and easily begin to grow your list because you want to consistently grow your sales, then I will suggest that you begin by simply investing about 1 hour a day working on your business and growing your list. By the way, that is just to get you started on creating your own system. But once again, do not worry if you do not know where to begin, because now you have me as a resource.

It can begin by you simply writing a blog like this one and asking people to sign up to get notifications every time you write a blog. 

You could use your blog to gauge people's interest in your topic. From here you can offer a free or low-cost series for people to try out.
